Titaniumwit eindelijk verboden als voedingsadditief E171, titaniumdioxide, is een veel gebruikte kleurstof, ook in voeding. De nanopartikels (1-100 nanometer) hebben een lichtreflecterend effect.
Het is nergens voor nodig, integendeel, onschuldig is deze witte glans bepaald niet. Maar het oog wil ook wat, dus wordt E171 overal ingestopt dat er friswit moet uit zien: verf, verse kaas, tandpasta, cosmetica, kauwgom, snoep, sunscreens, medicijnen(capsules)... Je krijgt er dus gemakkelijk een stevige hoeveelheid van binnen.

Uit een onderzoek bleek allang dat, alhoewel acute inname weinig gevolgen heeft, chronische opname de volledige fysiologie aantast, o.a. structuur en functie van het darmslijmvlies. De opname van belangrijke voedingsstoffen komt in het gedrang, toxische stoffen en microben kunnen ongehinderd binnen doorheen de lekke darm (leaky gut). Met onvermijdelijk oxidatieve en toxische stress, ontsteking, immuniteitsdaling, stofwisselingsproblemen, genotoxiciteit (DNA-beschadiging), mogelijks carcinogenese (wijze waarop kankertumoren ontstaan),…
Recenter onderzoek waarschuwt vooral voor de neurotoxiciteit: inflammatie en oxidatieve schade in de hersenen, angstgedrag, aantasting geheugen en cognitieve capaciteit,…
Ook de ecologische verspreiding heeft zware gevolgen…
